The Art of Good Governance in the Spanish Monarchy

Project description:

The focus of the project lies on the specific type of governance utilised by the Spanish monarchy in early modern history. The political and administrative organisation shall be reconstructed via the specific methods of ruling as well as especially the analyses of expectations regarding officials. Over the long extend of time from the 16. into the 18. century the conjuncture of the contemporary notion of "good government" (buen gobierno) or what could have been called so in practice shall be carved out.

The project will be supported for two years by the DAAD.
