Chair "Early Modern History":
Prof. Dr. Arndt Brendecke

brendecke2018Arndt Brendecke's research has concentrated on the emergence of the European culture of time, the development of procedures of knowledge production that seem self-evident today as well as on the structures of power and information in the early colonial empires. His teaching focuses on the history of the Holy Roman Empire, England and Spain and the early globalisation, for instance the history of the Caribbean and colonial Latin America. With the help of the academic and teaching staff at the Institute, the chair offers a broad spectrum of courses and an international environment. Proceeding from the idea that investigative curiosity is contagious, a strong focus lies on research.
