Welcome to Dr. Daniel Jütte
Guest Researcher from NYU
01.01.2026 – 31.05.2026
Prof. Dr. Daniel Jütte (New York University) is spending spring 2026 as a fellow at the SFB Vigilanzkulturen. While at LMU, he will continue his research for a book on urban mobility and vigilance in early modern Europe. His focus will be, in particular, on the rise of coaches and other four-wheeled vehicles in European cities from the sixteenth century onward as well as on the massive economic, social, cultural, and gender-specific repercussions of this new dynamic. These new forms of urban and social mobility went hand in hand with practices of urban vigilance, but as the project will show, the attempts to manage the new urban realities remained contentious throughout the entire period.
